Villa Wolf

From the German vineyards of Pfalz the Villa Wolf Estate was founded in 1756 and has been a successful and highly regarded winery for more than two centuries. It entered an especially glamorous era with the construction of its magnificent estate house and villa in 1843. Following a down-turn of fortune in the mid 20th century, the celebrated and enigmatic Ernst Loosen took over the Villa Wolf vineyards in 1996, launching a dramatic turnaround in the estate`s quality and reputation.

Pfalz

Germany's largest wine region, Pfalz is also modern and innovative, producing wines from a broad mix of grapes. Located north of Alsace in the rain-shadow of the Haardt mountains, Pfalz also shares its French neighbour's benevolent climate, and the low rainfall combined with long, warm days and cool nights are perfect for developing healthy, full flavoured grapes. While Riesling is the most commonly planted variety, 60 percent of the plantings in Pfalz are a miscellaneous collection of grapes, including all the Pinots - Noir, Blanc and Gris - and other, more experimental varieties. Of these, Pfalz Pinot Noir is gaining increasing favour among international consumers. Riesling remains the signature variety, and the hallmarks of the best Pfalz Rieslings are the concentrated, fuller-flavoured wines that are more rounded and less nervy than their cousins from the Mosel.

Pinot Noir

Fickle to grow, tricky to make and often majestic to drink, Pinot Noir is the grape of Burgundy, and grown all over the world, most notably in Oregon, New Zealand and California. It is also one of the major blending grapes for Champagne. While the wines from the old world and new are undeniably different, Pinot Noir is a very distinctive variety and its wines reveal soft strawberry and cherry flavours with a heady aroma and often complex savoury characteristics when the grapes are placed in the right hands.
