Margaux

25 kilometres north of the city of Bordeaux, Margaux is a world-renowned wine appellation, known for it's silky, fragrant blended red wines. It is the largest appellation within the Haut-Medoc and counts several villages within its boundaries, including Margaux itself. The best vineyards are located on well-drained slopes, and the soils are some of the lightest, most gravelly in the Medoc, which provide the wines with their typical refinement and smooth character.

The growing environment is scattered, and many of even the wealthiest chateaux have vineyards dispersed amongst those of their nearest competition. Wine is made to the individual styles of the estates and is less reliant on terroir. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominant wines are often austere in their youth, but eventually flourish into complex, sophisticated and sensual wines with time and the best Margaux wines can be very long-lived.

  3. Medium, luscious red
The second wine of Chateau du Tertre, where grapes comes from a selection of younger vines yet the vinification and ageing benefit from the same level of care as the Grand Vin, Chateau du Tertre. A classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc with just a touch of Petit Verdot.... Read more

  4. Rich, powerful red
Deyrem Valentin is always a good buy and the 2015 is one of our star entry-level Margaux. Fused red and black fruits nose. Gorgeous, silky texture on the palate with black currant core, integrated with underlying spice and subtle oak. Good complexity, focus and purity. A head in front of some Cru Classe Margaux that we tasted. D... Read more

  9. Rich, powerful red
Naturally that dominant proportion of Cabernet drives the aromatics with blackberry, cedar and graphite aromas. The palate is very well structured, more masculine than the 2015 and maybe without quite the same level of precision, but there is great density and length to this Giscours. Drink 2022-2055. 93-95 points. Neal Martin, ... Read more
