Gilbert Chon Muscadet Serve et Maine Sur Lie Clos de la ChapelleGilbert Chon Muscadet Serve et Maine Sur Lie Clos de la Chapelle

Gilbert Chon Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie 'Clos de la Chapelle', Loire Valley, France 2021

Wine has been produced in the Pays Nantais since Roman times. The Chon family arrived from Burgundy in the early 1700’s, bringing cuttings of Melon de Bourgogne with them. Over the next 300 years the estate has grown to a total of 76 hectares.

The 4-hectare vineyard of `Clos de la Chapelle’ produces a fresh and energetic Muscadet with a charming nose of lemon citrus, apple with undertones of ripe Cantaloupe melon. Clean and crisp with uplifting acidity, and a deft saline edge. Very pure and precise with impressive chalky minerality on the long, fine finish.

Enjoy with Mussel Mafaldine with Tomato and Parsley. You can find the recipe here.

Kopke Sao Luiz Colheita TintoKopke Sao Luiz Colheita Tinto

Kopke Sao Luiz Colheita Tinto, Douro, Portugal 2020

Though table wine has been produced for hundreds of years in the Douro Valley, it was mainly for local consumption. The Port houses had a monopoly on production and infrastructure was very poor until the late 1950’s. The monopoly ended with Portugal’s entry into the EU in 1988 and this led to a huge increase in the availability of delicious wines that were new to many consumers.

Kopke are the oldest Port house, being founded in 1638 and they have decided to pay special homage to the exquisite terroir of the Quinta de Sao Luiz estate with a range of still wines. Colheita Tinto is made from a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Cao, creating a juicy, pure, and generous wine.

Captivating aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry with floral hints. Medium to full-bodied on the palate with ripe, velvety tannins and good concentration of more blackcurrant and cassis, fused with subtle black pepper spice.

Partner this with some delicious grilled lamb with garlic and rosemary or a hearty ragu of beef and red wine.

Lyrarakis KotsifaliLyrarakis Kotsifali

Lyrarakis Kotsifali, Crete, Greece 2021

Lyrarakis is located in the mountainous commune of Alagni (440 metres above sea-level), south of the city of Heraklion, in Crete. The soils are predominantly loam with either more sand or clay depending on the vineyard site. Myriam Ambuzer, head winemaker, has been vital in securing Lyrarakis a place in the elite wineries of Greece. Her philosophy emphasises precision, purity and supple texture of the fruit. She argues it is all about expressing authenticity, achieving harmony and that every variety needs to be worked in its own special way. Kotsifali is the signature red grape of Crete, bright ruby in colour, it produces a rich and supple red with smooth tannins and soft acidity.

An aromatic nose of red cherries and juicy dark fruits with a touch of spice. Concentrated and savoury palate with soft tannins, vibrant acidity and a long finish.

Try with a typical Greek Stifado..a wonderful stew of beef shin and tomatoes seasoned with cinnamon and clove.
