Cotes de Bordeaux Castillon

Cotes de Bordeaux Castillon

Cotes de Bordeaux Castillon

Sold as Cotes de Castillon until 2009, when several appellations were brought under a new umbrella region called Cotes de Bordeaux. Located right on the eastern fringe of the Bordeaux wine region, all of the wines produced in Cotes de Bordeaux Castillon are red. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are the most planted varieties, but some Malbec and Carmenere can be found. The soils are clay and gravel based with Merlot mainly found in the clay soils and Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the gravels. The wines typically have structure and rich flavour and can be drunk early or cellared for a few years.

  1. Rich, powerful red
This has been one of my favourite chateaux since 2003. The Saint-Emilion/Castillon boundary runs straight through the estate with Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Chateau Faugeres on one side and Chateau Cap de Faugeres on the other. 2014 looks to be a very sharp vintage, with a great price and some serious scores. This wine is always wo... Read more

    Rich, powerful red
The little brother of Péby Faugères and Faugères, Château Cap de Faugères, with 20 hectares of vines, is located in the pretty commune of Sainte Colombe, in the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. It benefits from superb clay-limestone slopes that are an extension of the terroir in St.-Émilion, worked by the same tea... Read more

  4. Rich, powerful red
When Jacques Thienpont visited this estate in the Côtes de Castillon during the harvest of 2015, he was immediately struck by the great location and the stunning view, perched at the end of the limestone plateau that runs eastwards from Saint Emilion. A Belgian couple, Stéphane and Béatrice Goubau, had owned the château for ... Read more

Under the ownership of Hubert Bouard who owns Saint Angelus. Dark purple hue. Black cherry and plum fused with vanilla and spice. 8. Rich, powerful red
Owned by the Durantou family since 2009. A 11-hectare vineyard with vines that have an average ages of 25-years-old and is without a doubt one of the stars of the appellation due to its high quality, yet modest pricing. 2020 is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.... 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Mega-ripe nose of black cherry, autumn berries and cassis. Great freshness and balance on the palate wrapped around a juicy core of bramble and cherry fruit with added loganberries. Very good indeed. JG. Tasted at Chateau L’Eglise Clinet (April 2019). 10. Rich, powerful red
This has a more broody bouquet than the two Lalande-de-Pomerols, just a touch of leafiness originating from the Cabernet Sauvignon that enhances the complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure, more saline than the Les Cruzelles, backward at the moment, but the Cabernets impart some lovely graphite notes on the s... Read more
