Lagar de Cervera Albarino, 2022

In 1988 the famous Riojan winery, La Rioja Alta, purchased the facilities and vineyards of Fernández Cervera in Pontevedra (Galicia), and over time has gradually transformed them into one of the most modern and well-respected wines in DO Rías Baixas. The estate now owns over 70-hectares of vines producing high quality fruit from the sub-regions of O Rosal and O Salnés, where specially selected plots combined with the very first optical sorting table in the region have raised the quality of Lagar de Cervera Albariño. The 2021 offering is a wonderfully vibrant and aromatic wine with excellent texture, purity and precision and was awarded 93 points by Tim Atkin MW.

Bright, vibrant aromas of apple, pear, lemon, and white flowers fill the glass. Impressive body and creamy texture on the mid-palate underpinned by uplifting, zippy acidity that provides tension and backbone to the wine. Similar green and citrus fruit fuse with added peach, apricot and pineapple lead into a long, mineral-driven finish with a touch of quince spice. Excellent. Andrew Ray

Ángel Suárez has been the winemaker here since La Rioja bought the winery back in 1987 and there`s a corresponding sense of self-assurance about his whites. Marrying fruit from the granite soils of Cambados in the Val do Salnés with 80% from the schist of O Rosal, this is floral and appealing, with pear and boiled sweets` aromas, some cream from one-third malolactic and flavours of honeysuckle and lime.
