Artadi

Originally founded in 1981 by current owner Juan Carlos López de Lacalle along with 13 local growers in the village of Laguardia, La Rioja. Artadi champion ‘respectful’ winemaking, a philosophy based on organic and sustainable viticulture where the primary focus is to make unique and elegant wines with a true sense of place. In 1996, the family expanded into the neighbouring region of Navarra with the same conviction for producing quality wines while respecting the natural balance of the vineyard and surroundings.

Navarra

One of Spain's more prolific regions, Navarra is best-known for its dry, fruity rose wines, made from Garnacha (Grenache), and found in most tapas bars along the Basque coast. Recent arrivals of French varieties have seen an upsurge in dry, red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, while the region is also attracting favourable attention for its red-fruited Tempranillo wines which are often darker and richer than those found in neighbouring Rioja. Sweet white wines are also found in Navarra, generally made from Moscatel and particularly delicious. Located in the north of Spain, Navarra has a long history of wine production and its climate is affected by the Atlantic Ocean to the north-west and Pyrenees to the north-east which serve to bring more rainfall and cooler temperatures than the protected region of Rioja below it. Late harvesting is common, to ensure the grapes are perfectly ripe.

Grenache

Grenache, or Garnacha is widely planted throughout Spain and Southern France where it needs the hot, dry climate to grow successfully. Soft on the palate, with spice and red berry flavours, its lack of acidity and tannin sees it being used most frequently in blends typically with Tempranillo in Spain and Syrah and Cinsault in France. Grenache-based wines can develop complex, intense notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, and peppery spice in the right locations, and low yields tend to make better wines.
