Ixsir

Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angelus is consultant for Ixsir where grapes are selected from the best terroirs throughout Lebanon, with a desire to sponsor sustainable development within growers’ communities. The winery is situated beneath an historic manor house in Basbina and its breathtaking blending of sleek modern lines with ancient heritage has seen it win awards for its green status. The Altitudes range of wines are named after the exceptional 1000-metre-plus terroirs of the Bekaa valley and they are pure and unoaked, whereas the Grande Reserve wines are powerful, rich and barrel-aged.

Western Cape

Western Cape was designated as a Geographical Unit under the Wine of Origin scheme in 1993 and covers almost all of South Africa's main quality vineyard areas which are concentrated around the coast. The region stretches from the rugged mountains of the coastal region to the open plains inland where viticulture takes place mainly in the river valleys which means there is a huge range of terroirs. Wine producers often take the approach of blending parcels of wine from more than one distinct region to give complexity and balance. These wines will be labelled as Western Cape and most will have a common thread of old world minerality and earthiness coupled with new world fruitiness.

Red Blend

Red blended wines are created around the world from a multitude of grapes and are often focused on local varieties. Well-blended red wines should make use of complementary varieties, that balance each other well. Cabernet Sauvignon often plays a major part, as does Syrah and Pinot Noir. Australia makes excellent wines from Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, known as GSMs. Portuguese red blends typically rely on inky Touriga Nacional, and in Argentina, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon are good friends.
