Chateau Prieure Lichine 2003

  • Chateau Prieure Lichine 2003
  • Cabernet Sauvignon, Medium Bodied, Dry, 13.50% alcohol, Cork, (Case of 12 x 75cl Bottles)
  • New owners and a new wine-maker, Stephane Derenoncourt (of La Mondotte fame) since 1999.

This is a property where the quality (but not the price) has increased significantly recently.

52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, with 60% new oak used. They describe their wine as being “très aromatique avec beaucoup de rondeur et de soyeux”.

We were very impressed with this wine which is the best Prieure that we have ever tasted.

There is a lovely, fragrant vanilla nose. On the palate it is beautifully smooth, supple and silky with good depth and intensity of cherry and blackcurrants.

Good Margaux typicity. This is a great example of modern winemaking that also shows a deep respect for the terroir.
  • Price inc. VAT: £305.50
    Bottle Price inc. VAT: £25.46

Critic Notes for this Wine

Jancis Robinson

Deep reddish crimson. Round, low key. Some gamy, animal notes associated with overripeness. Fruit juice rather than wine. More freshness and vitality please! Velvety and not too alcoholic (certainly not an Argentine style) but lacking in zip. Will flatter many palates.
